The bi-annual Pacific Tuna Forum (PTF) 2025 remains a significant opportunity for all voices to be heard from policymakers, regulatory authorities, industry players, regional organisations, institutions, academics, civil society and community groups, on all matters concerning tuna in the WCPO region and the broader Blue Pacific Continent. PTF 2025 provides an opportune moment for all industry partners and stakeholders to reflect on the industry’s trajectory; to share experiences and perspectives; and to also galvanise collective efforts to ensure the long-term sustainability of this valuable shared resource in contributing to continuing development and a prosperous future for the region.

The theme’s emphasis on resilience, innovation, equity and sustainable trade highlights the Pacific region’s concerted efforts towards future-proofing the industry’s sustainability, by continuing to improve regulatory frameworks, ensuring a more conducive investment environment, fostering industry expansion and growth, strengthening partnerships and cooperation at all levels of the market value chain; and ultimately working to leverage greater value and more equitable returns from the region’s tuna’s resources. For many Pacific Island countries, the tuna industry is an invaluable contributor to national wellbeing and it continues to be increasingly vital that these resources are leveraged in a manner where benefit can be maximised. This especially so, as many of these developing nations and Small Island States also look to address pressing development needs, as well as strengthen resilience against significant challenges such as climate change and rising sea levels which threaten the very fabric of the region and its peoples.

PTF 2025 will bring to the fore, topical matters that are most pressing to the industry and the region. Value retention, equity, scalability, resilience, innovation, inclusive participation, better tuna fisheries management, industry reporting and standards, addressing IUU, contributing to climate change adaptation, sustainable supply chains, markets and trade, industry transformation and future-proofing the tuna industry for the continuing benefit and longer-term prosperity of the region, will be key parts of the conversation, as well as much more.

Ensuring that all voices are heard is therefore critical in ensuring a more inclusive, sustainable and prosperous tuna industry in the WCPO region. The 9th Pacific Tuna Forum (PTF 2025) will bring all these voices together under its transformative theme "Pacific Tuna 2050: Resilience, Innovation, Equity and Sustainable Trade for a Prosperous Future”.
