The Western and Central Pacific Ocean (WCPO) region contributes almost 60% of the global harvest of tuna, making the Pacific region and the “Blue Pacific Continent” the heart of the global tuna industry.

The 9th Pacific Tuna Forum (PTF 2025)’s theme: "Pacific Tuna 2050: Resilience, Innovation, Equity and Sustainable Trade for a Prosperous Future” as such, is not just a regional emphasis and priority in terms of greater value retention, industry expansion, sustainable supply chains, markets and trade, and future-proofing the sustainability of the tuna industry; but also in consolidating critical revenue in supporting national development priorities, creating employment opportunities, supporting technological and knowledge transfer, fostering more equitable wealth creation, addressing the effects of climate change across the region and contributing to a more resilient Blue Pacific Continent. Moreover, the tuna industry is not just critical to the region, but its longer-term viability and sustainability indelibly has global implications also, in terms of contributing to food security, poverty alleviation, better health and education, sustainable supply chains, markets and trade, strengthening fisheries management, better standards, combating IUU fishing and the overall advancement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the Pacific region and globally in supporting a more secure, sustainable and prosperous future.
